My fingers typed rhythmically on the keyboard of my laptop, the faint glow of the screen and the post it that held my roll number and password.
I could feel masi, mausaji and Sid's eyes on me as they too held their breath. Before this, we checked Sid's 11th grade results. He got 98%
I hope all my sleepless nights pay off.
I clicked refresh hoping it-
97%
97%
I blinked, expecting it to be a joke saying I failed, but I heard masi gasp, mausaji clapping and sid shaking me out of my trance.
Then it hit me. I did it. I made it to 11th grade.
Thank you kanha ji.
I stood up, still in a daze as everyone took me in a group hug. I could see masi trying (and failing) not to cry, mausaji's proud smile and and Sid's happiness.
"You did it, Sanu" masi said and i suddenly felt like crying.
"Mumma and papa would be so proud today, Sani" Sid said and i missed them more than ever.
That night, we cut a cake for both of our passing. Masi gave me a gift, even though I had said no gifts. It was a pure leather bound diary with handmade paper, and my initials engraved on the spine.

I kept blinking, to check that it was actually true that I had scored 92.7%, in 11th grade final exams? Ahem ye pakka mere hi marks hai na?
A involuntary smile spread across my face. Dad. Will he be proud? Will he pat my head saying that he's proud of me?
I scrambled from the bed, laptop in hand. When i almost tripped over because my foot got stuck in a old tshirt of mine.
I took one look at my room and knew I needed to clean. Imma summon drake for cleaning.
I sighed, but I have bigger things to do than pick up my sweaty clothes and cringe.
I made my way to dad's study, after confirming with Mayank bhaiya that he's home.
Wao. I need a appointment to see my own dad.
I entered his huge study, after knocking noticing him on his mahogany desk, suit on, tie perfect. Every bit the politician he was.
My father is a man in his mid 50's with a muscular lean body, black hair and sharp assessing eyes that will make you recall your worst nightmare and it still won't be scarier than standing infront of Neerav Agnihotri.
He paused when he looked at me, "You need anything, Advait? I have a meeting in a few minutes if you would."
I placed my laptop on his desk, he looked at me with raised brows. "I got my 11th final results" I said, and he nodded not betraying any emotion.
He scanned the marksheet, and I couldn't tell where I stood with those marks.
Oh lord save me
His lips paused into a thin line, "Only 92.7% Advait?"
My stomach churned in disappointment and shame.
He continued, "You're a Agnihotri. You should've gotten more than 95%, you're going to grow up and take the legacy that your grandfather built forward. Is this how you plan to do it!," he yelled. I felt like flinching but I didn't. "I want better results. These marks no can do."
I felt numb but I didn't let it show on my face. He'd consider this a weakness. Showing emotions.
"Now leave boy, I have a job to do."
I kept my eyes on the floor, "Yes sir". I replied with calmness but inside I was on the shore of the beach in the middle of a storm.
I picked my laptop, the grades staring back as if mocking me. I closed the door behind me, and i could already hear his voice as he started his meeting.
I jumped on my bed, still messy still mine. Looking up at the ceiling all the thoughts rushed through.
Am I never enough? No matter what I do, I'm always invisible to him. Even if I rebel, he doesn't correct me like a father.
12th grade, here i come. Treat me right, will you?
